Mega Dream ex (M2a) Guide: Chase Cards, Pull Rates and Why It Keeps Selling Out

Mega Dream ex is the Japanese High Class pack that closed out 2025 - and months later, sealed boxes are still some of the most hunted Pokemon product in the hobby. Here is what makes M2a special, the cards everyone is chasing, and what to check before buying a box in Australia.

What is Mega Dream ex?

Released in Japan on November 28, 2025, Mega Dream ex (set code M2a) is a 250-card High Class pack built around Pokemon ex and the returning Mega Evolution mechanic. High Class packs are Japan's premium end-of-year format: every 10-card pack guarantees at least one Pokemon ex or Mega Evolution ex, which makes ripping them consistently exciting - and grading-friendly.

The set also debuts new Mega Evolutions like Mega Dragonite and Mega Eelektross, plus character cards from Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

The chase: MA rarity and full-art Megas

Mega Dream ex introduced a brand-new rarity - MA, or Mega attack rare - full-art Mega Evolution ex cards in a bold pop-art style with the attack name splashed across the artwork. Alongside the usual SAR and gold cards, the MA cards are the pulls driving box prices. One quirk collectors love: the Japanese and English versions reverse the language in the artwork, so the Japanese printing is the one with the distinctive look.

Why buy the Japanese version?

Japan gets High Class packs first, the print quality runs tighter (better centering means better grades), and the guaranteed-ex format means no dead packs. The English equivalent arrived later inside Ascended Heroes - but the Japanese M2a printing is the original, and it is the version collectors and graders chase.
